Twitter and Follow Friday – Photographers I follow

Grand Tetons National Park – Photo by Tony Eckersley
As some of you may know, I have been using Twitter for almost a year now and have grown to find it increasingly informative, entertaining and a great resource. For me, I find it a perfect way to connect with other photographers around the world sharing stories, pictures and tips. Every Friday the twitterverse holds it’s weekly #followfriday where users recommend certain followers for others to follow along with. I find this a good way of connecting with people I have not followed yet and usually find some great people to follow. I also find that the best #followfriday recommendations come from those who give a reason. So here are mine. I have not put everybody I know obviously – these are some who I have enjoyed their tweets this week. Don’t be offended if I have missed you – I follow you for a reason and it’s usually because I enjoy your tweets!
- @matthewdlyons – Local photographer (to me!) in DC and a very generous twitterer. Takes great photos and helped me a lot with the copy for http://www.tonyeckersley.com
- @WildlifePhotog – Great photographer who takes pictures of the natural world. We are all very glad when @Thomas_Cat returned home this week
- @travispeltz – VP of Essential Photo Gear and great photographer. I had fun watching @travispeltz witness some rare aurora’s this week with some star streak photography
- @cavaroc – I am very jealous of @cavaroc and his great photographs! I wish I could go more often to the wonderful places he goes. His blog and photographs are really fantastic
- @shawnduffy – Another local (to me) photographer in DC. @shawnduffy is a brilliant freelance photographer and photojournalist and has some very powerful shots from his travels
- @mitzs – One of my all time favorite twitterers! Always helpful, always fun to chat with – everyone should follow her
- @EricBooth – Eric is a great twitter user and a great photographer. Always helpful in his replies and advice. Also loved this idea – Bind It
- @ScottSharman – Love his tweets, love his photography and love his car! Has some great music photography and is a great twitterer to connect with
- @pixelatedimage – I find David duChemin to be one of the most inspirational photographers to me. All photog’s should buy his book (Within the Frame: The Journey of Photographic Vision (Voices That Matter)) and read his brilliant articles on his blog
- @CBJason – Jason Anderson has a really great blog (Canon Blogger) with some great reviews and advice. Very active and useful on twitter
- @basisbranding – A good friend who always posts really great links to all things creative and interesting
- @JohnMilleker – Recommended just for this pic on his twitter page – that’s some nice equipment around his neck! But in all serious, great to connect with, very helpful and great photographer
- @ded – One of my favorite ’strobist’ photographers. His work with lights is very inspirational and his “strobist info” whether in video of picture form is very helpful to those learning about lights.
- @chasejarvis – Chase embraces web 2.0 to really connect with his followers and does so in a very generous way, such as behind the scenes videos, full keynote speeches etc. Most photographers using twitter will already be following him at this point!
So give these people a follow if you don’t already!
More next week, and feel free to add some comments of people you recommend
