I was just going through some recent shots I had taken during some relaxing time today and came across this from the Marine Corps War Memorial, Iwo Jima, Arlington, VA. Not the best picture I have, but it’s a variant of this photograph (which I honestly prefer)

I feel I do not take full advantage of living so close to Washington DC, and I plan to do so with my new self employed work schedule!

Very nice picture! I am not just sure that the sun was in the optimal position. Then again, I dont know where I would have put it… The obvious place would have been the hand, but then we would not be able to see it…

Also, I dont know how the area surrounding the picture is, but a landscape framing would have yielded a sense of movement.

Still, great shot, nice color and subject!

The sun nearer the hands may have looked better, and now that I look back at the photo I tend to agree with you. Maybe next time I am there I will try and catch it.

I know what you mean about landscape vs portrait for this shot, but the framing was limited by the vast amounts of people there (was memorial day weekend) so I had to work with what I had.

great silhouette & photograph .. if you bump the aperture way up you could get a sharper sun flare / star :] other variant photog is also great .. nice blog you have!

Whether it is going to the Woolly Mammoth Theatre or the Spooky Movie Film Festival, I immerse myself in the countless outputs artists use to express themselves. As a result, my inspirations include, among other things, Strobist’s blog and Robert McKee’s Story. As an artist, capturing the uniqueness of our world—the landscapes, cityscapes, cultures, feelings and overall stories—helps me fight the inscrutability that surrounds us. I was born and raised in the United Kingdom. I moved to the east coast of the United States of America in 2005, which only fueled my passion to travel. The people I have met and the places I have seen, altogether, have shaped my need to photograph. That being said, I believe my need to photograph is no different than the people’s need to see photography; and that is to experience their relationship with the world through an artistic medium.

Capturing social documentary through photography, I hope viewers look deeper into the surface of their screens for a story about life today and how we might admire, change, and appreciate it more. For this reason, I look forward to the future, hoping to expand my work nationally through publications and galleries. Thus, I am always adding to ongoing projects and hope you will return to my site soon again
